Why Scheer IDS Netherlands Focuses on SAP Public Cloud

The reasoning behind a full commitment to one ERP model — and what it means for your journey to SAP Cloud ERP.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud — Why Public Cloud, a Scheer IDS topic on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

SAP S/4HANA Cloud comes in two deployment models: public or private.

The Private Edition leaves room for custom code and infrastructure control, but it also brings upgrades, technical debt, and maintenance.

The Public Edition takes a different position: a standardized, SAP-run system that updates on a fixed cadence, with extensions kept off the digital core through Clean Core.

Where the Private Edition is often seen as the logical step to start with SAP Cloud ERP, is the Public Edition at least worthwhile to inspect as a working. SAP's Digital Discovery Assessment gives you, in a short time, a perfect view of your required fit within the Public Edition.

Scheer IDS Netherlands has worked in SAP cloud ERP since 2012 and focuses entirely on Public Edition. We believe in a non-complex ERP solution, based on a Cloud Mindset, clean core principles, and best practices. That's what the Public Edition is all about.

Why the standard works

Running on the SAP standard with SAP Activate and Clean Core changes ERP economics. Updates arrive twice a year without a migration project each time, custom code doesn't accumulate into an upgrade wall, and new SAP capabilities, including SAP Business AI, become available as they ship.

A greenfield move to Public Edition is less about replacing a system than about adopting SAP best practices instead of rebuilding old complexity. Part of the value is what remains afterward: because the solution is designed and built together with the client, the organization understands its own system and can maintain it after go-live. That, as much as the technology, is why SAP recognized Scheer as an Expert Partner for this edition and as a GROW with SAP Trusted Partner.

What this means for your migration

The useful question is rarely "public or private" in the abstract. It is whether your processes can run on the SAP standard through a fit-to-standard approach. For many mid-sized manufacturers, retailers, and consumer-goods businesses moving off SAP ECC, the answer is yes! The Public Edition then removes the maintenance the organization would otherwise carry. Where a process genuinely cannot, a Discovery Assessment surfaces it early, before it becomes a surprise.
