The concept
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is delivered through GROW with SAP, SAP's program for organizations starting fresh with SAP S/4HANA Cloud using a Fit-to-Standard approach. Rather than adapting the software to replicate existing processes, an organization adopts SAP's standardized best practices and configures the solution to fit — an approach known as Clean Core.
Organizations migrating from an existing SAP landscape, such as SAP ECC, typically follow the parallel RISE with SAP program instead. Both programs lead to the same underlying product; they differ in their starting points and migration paths, not in the target architecture.
Every Public Edition subscription includes a three-system landscape (development, test, and production), SAP Central Business Configurator for configuration management, SAP Cloud Application Lifecycle Management, and access to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) for extensions, integrations, and analytics. Implementation follows SAP Activate, SAP's structured methodology for cloud ERP projects.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition follows a standardized core, extended through SAP Business Technology Platform rather than direct modification of the core system. This separation — known as Clean Core — is what allows SAP to release updates twice a year without disrupting customer-specific extensions.
