Build agents, apps, and automation on your core

Build is the first layer of SAP Business AI Platform (BAIP) to you turn manual work into automated workflows and build AI agents and apps that are wired straight into your business.

Build is the first of three layers on SAP Business AI Platform (BAIP), formerly SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP): build → reason → govern. It is where ideas become working software on top of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition — the layer where you take routine work off people's hands and put AI to work directly in your processes.

Three things ship as part of the foundation, not as separate products to source and stitch together:

Automated workflows that take routine work off people's hands.

Low-code apps that act on your data and cover what standard functionality does not.

AI agents that reason over your business and carry out tasks.

Everything you build lives on the platform and connects to the ERP through released interfaces, so you extend how your organization works without changing the standardized core, which stays upgrade-stable. What your agents and apps understand about the business comes from the Reason layer; how they stay secure and compliant comes from Govern.

From manual steps to automated processes

The automation side is delivered through the SAP Build tools on the platform, with a low-code and no-code approach so business teams can turn a manual procedure into an automated workflow. Five building blocks do the work:

Approvals:  to route themselves to the right people.

Business rules:  to apply decisions consistently.

Forms: to capture requests.

Automations:  to that handle repetitive tasks.

Dashboards:  to show how processes run, where the bottlenecks are, and what the outcomes look like.

Each workflow connects to the ERP through released interfaces, extending how your organization works without touching the standard core.

Agents and apps with SAP Joule Studio

Beyond automating steps, Build makes the foundation genuinely intelligent. Two tools carry that:

SAP Joule Studio: design AI agents that carry out tasks with business context.

SAP Build: add the apps and extensions that standard functionality does not cover.

The context these agents reason over does not come from Build. It comes from the Reason layer and the SAP Knowledge Graph — an agent is only as smart as the context it can reason over, which is why the two layers work hand in hand.
